A

man identified as KM, 39, has been accused of hitting his friends with his car out of anger and jealously, killing one and injuring two others.

One of the victims, DP, died following the incident, while CK, 30, and IM, 32, were severely injured, West Jakarta Police criminal division chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Edy Suranta said.

KM reportedly grew angry after being teased by his friends. The three victims and another friend of KM were reportedly under the influence after consuming alcoholic beverages on Jl. Kopi in Tambora, West Jakarta, in the wee hours of Thursday last week.

The case was initially reported as a traffic accident, however, police later claimed that KM had hit his friends deliberately.

"After investigating the case, we found out that it was murder," Edy said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Edy said several women were also at the gathering of friends and that KM may have grown jealous after one of the victims sat near his girlfriend.

If found guilty, KM could face 15 years in prison for murder. (fac)
