ll 1,520 villages throughout North and East Kalimantan provinces have finally been connected to electricity service, state utility firm PLN announced in Balikpapan on Thursday.
“A total of 1,038 villages are in East Kalimantan and 482 in North Kalimantan” Machnizon, PLN’s business director for Kalimantan, said Thursday.
The number means PLN has achieved its goal of providing electricity to all areas of the two provinces.
Machnizon said PLN would still need to improve the network in the villages because not all villagers were able to use electricity despite their village having the access.
A resident of Beringin Agung village, Agung Suryanto, said people in his village could enjoy electricity for 24 hours with affordable rates. The residents depended on a mining company nearby that charged them Rp 100,000 (US$7.22) to Rp 250,000 per month for four hours of electricity per day. (evi)
