ducation and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy congratulated all educational and cultural actors celebrating National Education Day, which fell on Tuesday.

“We want to wish you -- all educational and cultural actors in Indonesia -- a happy National Education Day. Let’s use this year’s celebration as an opportunity to strengthen relations between education and culture as reflected in the teaching, thought and educational practices of [notable educational figure] Ki Hadjar Dewantara,” said Muhadjir in his remarks during the celebration of National Education Day at the Education and Culture Ministry in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The minister also emphasized the importance of strengthening character building in education and children's literacy as mandated in Nawa Cita, the nine-point development program of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

Muhadjir said the strengthening of character building had been stipulated in Presidential Regulation No.87/2017.

“We should be grateful for the people’s great enthusiasm toward this character building movement. This is incredible. They are aware that strengthening people's character and literacy is the spirit of our education and cultural system.”

Muhadjir also called on all educational and cultural actors to adapt to the fourth industrial revolution, which is centered on technological advancements.
