razilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes is scheduled to represent Brazilian President Michel Temer on a visit to Indonesia from May 10 to 12.

Brazilian Ambassador to Indonesia Rubem Antônio Corrêa Barbosa said on Wednesday that President Temer could not visit Indonesia because he had to attend a congressional vote on Brazil's state budget.

"Our foreign affairs minister will be in Indonesia from May 10 to 12 on the request of our president," the ambassador said during a press conference in Jakarta.

Corrêa Barbosa said that during the visit, several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) would be signed, including one that granted Indonesian passport bearers a 30-day stay without a visa in Brazil, which was a reciprocal agreement as Indonesia had granted free visas to Brazilians.

The second MoU will be on the tourist sector. "Last year, 30,000 Brazilians came to this country. Most of them went to Bali because we do not have [a place like] Bali in Brazil," Corrêa Barbosa said.

The third document will be on the agriculture sector, as Indonesia looks to obtain agricultural technology from Brazil, which, in the last 20 years, has been successful in doubling yields.

“What we have is middle-level technology that is more easily transferred, less costly and easier to assimilate," the ambassador said.

Moreover, Corrêa Barbosa said that there would be a declaration between Mercado Común del Sur (Mercosur), a South American trade block, and the Indonesian government, as an initial move to establish a free trade area. (bbn)
