Komariah, the mother of 10-year-old M. Rizki Syahputra, one of two children who died on April 28 during a social event at National Monument (Monas) Park in Central Jakarta, has dropped her police report after being questioned by the Jakarta Police on Saturday, her lawyer has said.
omariah, the mother of 10-year-old M. Rizki Syahputra, one of two children who died on April 28 during a charity event at National Monument (Monas) Park in Central Jakarta, has dropped her police report after being questioned by the Jakarta Police on Saturday, her lawyer has said.
Irfan Iskandar, a lawyer who was appointed by Komariah to replace her former lawyer M. Fayyadh, said Komariah had come to terms with the incident.
“She has officially dropped the report. I have submitted the official letter to rescind the report, which has been signed by Komariah, to the investigator. She dropped the report because she had come to terms with the incident and had accepted it as God's will,” Irfan said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.
Irfan said Komariah’s decision was made without intimidation from any party.
However, he acknowledged that Henry Indraguna, a lawyer who represents Dave Santosa, the chairman of Forum Untukmu Indonesia, which organized the event, had communicated with Komariah.
The two had reportedly come to an agreement and made peace.
Irfan refused to say whether Dave had promised compensation for Komariah.
“She has accepted it [the death of her son] and sees it as God’s will. Therefore, she accepted the peace deal,” he added.
Komariah ex-lawyer, Fayyadh, previously said his client had been asked to not discuss the chronology of the incident to anyone in return for money.
Fayyadh said two members of Relawan Merah Putih had given Rp 5 million (US$358) in hush money to Komariah and Rp 10 million to the family of Mahesa Junaedi, a 12-year-old who also died during the event.
Relawan Merah Putih is a campaign group that supported Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Jusuf Kalla during the 2014 presidential election and Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Syaiful Hidayat during the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. (cal)
