he North Jakarta administration has pledged to revitalize three reservoirs in the municipality — namely Rawa Badak, Cincin and Teluk Gong — to be made new tourist destinations.
The city administration had previously revamped Lake Sunter in North Jakarta, which has emerged as a new destination for tourists in the city. In addition to cleaning the lake, the administration has also repainted nearby houses in various colors.
“We have made Lake Sunter a tourist destination. In the near future, we will make Rawa Badak, Cincin and Teluk Gong reservoirs tourist destinations as well,” North Jakarta Mayor Husein Murad said on Wednesday, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Lake Sunter had become a hot topic in the previous month after a ministry’s video went viral on social media.
In the video, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti challenged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to restore the lake so that it could be as clean and well organized as the lakes in Geneva, Switzerland.
She was filmed during her working visit to the Annual United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights (FBHR), held from Nov. 27 to 29 in Geneva.
The administration was fast to respond the call and restore the lake.
On Feb. 25, the Lake Sunter Festival was held. Susi and Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno raced to cross the lake in front of thousands of visitors. (vny/wit)
