The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta in cooperation with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) recently organized an international seminar on oceans and blue economy at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Jakarta
The title of the seminar was “ASEAN High Level Dialog on Oceans and Blue Economy 2018: Enhancing Regional Cooperation on Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Pollution in Southeast Asia”.
“The main objective of this forum is to persuade policymakers to discuss the best solutions to manage and reduce marine pollution in Southeast Asia through implementing sustainable fisheries and blue economy to create a healthy environment and sustainable development in the region,” CSEAS executive director Arisman said.
The seminar was inaugurated by Norwegian Ambassador to ASEAN Morten Hoglund and the keynote speaker was Rifky Effendi Hardijanto, secretary general of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry.
There were sessions on topics such as “Promoting Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security in Southeast Asia”, “The Marine Pollution Changes in ASEAN – What are the Drivers and Causes” and Finding Solutions for Sustainable Ocean and Blue Ocean Economy Challenges”.
Eminent scholars from seven countries took part in the seminar and shared their ideas and perspectives.
Indonesia is the second-biggest contributor to the world’s marine pollution. The seminar was timely to discuss all the problems related to blue economy, sustainable fishery resources and marine pollution. The outcome of the seminar will be presented at the forthcoming Our Ocean Conference in Bali in October this year.
