ndonesia’s women's badminton team maintained a positive trend in the 2018 Thomas and Uber Cup after defeating France 5-0 in Group D on Tuesday.
The second victory in the group stage has earned Indonesia a spot in the quarterfinals, which will take place on Thursday. In Monday’s opener, Indonesia beat Malaysia 3-2.
“As expected, our Uber Cup team has reached the quarterfinals,” said Susy Susanti, sport development head of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), at Bangkok’s IMPACT Arena on Tuesday.
“All of our shuttlers fought hard today, although some things could have been done better.
“Today’s results will be beneficial for [Wednesday’s] match against China. We really hope we can finish as the group leader tomorrow,” added the Indonesian team manager.
In Tuesday’s best-of-five match series, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung set a beneficial lead-up for Indonesia after beating Yaelle Hoyaux in quite an easy 21-9 and 21-8.
Playing the second match, doubles pairing Della Destiara Haris and Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani defeated Emille Lefel and Anne Tran 21-10 and 21-16.
In the third match in the singles category, Dinar Dyah Ayustine secured the country’s 3-0 victory after beating Marie Batomene 21-17 and 21-10.
Indonesia completed the clean sweep with the remaining two matches by Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Apriyani Rahayu in doubles as well as Ruselli Hartawan in singles.
On Wednesday, Indonesia is set to face China, which defeated Malaysia on Tuesday, to determine the Group D leader.
Each group leader will face the runner-up from another group in the quarterfinals.
