n a surprise move on Friday, the head of the presidential working unit on the implementation of Pancasila state ideology (UKP-PIP),which has been transformed into the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP), reportedly stepped down from his position.

In a written statement quoted by tempo.co, Yudi Latif, who led UKP-PIP for years, said his departure was a perfect opportunity for the regeneration of leaders of the agency.

“To all UKP-PIP/BPIP members who waved the Pancasila flag persistently despite obstacles and limitations, I appreciate and thank you for your efforts. With this, I bid farewell,” Yudi said.

In the written statement, Yudi also revealed that members of the UKP-PIP's steering committee had not been paid despite working for the agency for one year because of a lack of a presidential regulation (Perpres) stipulating members' financial rights.

Established last year, Yudi said, the UKP-PIP had used only Rp 7 billion (US$501,900) of its Rp 12 billion state funding to cover the cost of its activities. This was because the 2017 fiscal year was halfway through when the agency's steering committee members and its head were inaugurated in June 2017

In order to get funding to run the agency, it submitted a proposal for the revised 2017 state budget , resulting in the agency receiving funds only at the beginning of November 2017. By December, the agency has to stop using the state budget. (dpk/ebf)
