housands of Idul Fitri holiday revelers began to arrive at Solo Balapan train station in Surakarta, Central Java on Saturday. Aside from the nation's capital, the travelers came from Bandung, Surabaya and other cities. They were among the early arrivals.
"I came home seven days before Idul Fitri because the traffic would not be so crowded," Laksamana, 36, said Saturday. Thursday was his last day at the office before the holiday season, he said.
Station head Suharyanto said in total there would be 393 train trips, including 40 extra trips, during the holiday season, from June 5 to 26.
An increase in passengers also occurred at Tirtonadi bus terminal in Surakarta. The management estimated that about 50,000 people arrived at the terminal on Saturday, many more than the usual 13,000 to 20,000 arrivals. (evi)
