Tito Karnavian has called on Idul Fitri holiday travelers to avoid making journeys on June 19 and 20, when return traffic is expected to reach its peak.

“Please do not force yourself to go back on June 19 and 20. A [better] alternative is 17 and 18. The holiday is still long,” he was quoted as saying by kompas.com on Friday.

According to Tito, return traffic is predicted to begin building up on Sunday. Travelers are advised to travel early or wait until the traffic peak has passed.

Tito said the police had stationed personnel to direct traffic at several busy tollgates, such as Manyaran tollgate in Central Java, as well as the Cipali and Cikarang Utama tollgates heading to Jakarta.

He added police also anticipated more road users at the Bakauheni and Merak ports.(gis/dmr)
