esidents have found a newborn girl of about 3 months old in a small alley in a neighborhood in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon.
Palmerah public enforcement head Supriadi of the Jakarta Social Agency said the apparently healthy baby girl was found in an alleyway in neighborhood unit (RT) 006, community unit (RW) 010.
The baby is currently being examined at the Palmerah community health center (Puskesmas).
“On Thursday, June 21, at around 11:30 a.m., we found a baby girl of around two to three months old. [...] The baby appears to be in good health and even smelled of talcum powder, appearing to have been bathed recently,” Supriadi said in a written statement on Friday.
“The baby was abandoned in an alleyway and was found by a resident, Hajjah Rohana,” the statement said.
Supriadi said that local authorities from the RT, RW, the Palmerah subdistrict social agency (LMK) and the police's security and public order officers (Bhabinkamtibmas) immediately contacted the Puskesmas to check the newborn's physical condition, as it was unknown how long the baby had been left outside.
“If the baby is healthy and stable, we will take her to the Asuhan Anak Balita Tunas Bangsa orphanage [in East Jakarta]. There, the baby will receive full care and treatment,” said Supriadi. (ami)
