Greater Jakarta: Body discovered in hotel room

man reportedly connected to the Indonesian Military’s (TNI) intelligence unit was found dead on Thursday in a hotel room in Kampung Bali, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

According to hotel staff, the 74-year-old had not left his hotel room for several days, said Tanah Abang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Lukman Cahyono.

Hotel employee Novalian told the police that he and several of his coworkers discovered the body upon checking the room because of overdue payments.

After finding the door locked and detecting a strange odor, he called other hotel staffers to open the door and found the man dead on the bed.

Investigators believe the man had died of an illness, because large amounts of medication was found in his room, Lukman said.

A membership card for Military Command 0501/JP based in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, was found in the man’s wallet.

However, 0501/JP Military Command commander Col. Inf. Edwin Adrian Sumantha said the man was not a member of the military, but rather a civilian who had worked with the military as a member of the intelligence unit, kompas.com reported.
