large fire has engulfed a densely populated area in Tanah Tinggi subdistrict of Johar Baru district in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon, but the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPD) said via its Twitter account that the fire had started at around 1:20 p.m., and at least 18 firetrucks had been deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Police through its Twitter account posted footage showing a big fire that quickly devoured settlements in the area located in a narrow alley, with thick smoke blanketing the area.
The authorities had yet to make any statements about the incident.
