he quick count results released by a number of survey institutions placed the Nurdin Abdullah-Andi Sudirman Sulaiman candidate pair as the winner of the South Sulawesi gubernatorial election on Wednesday.

Supporters of the winning pair happily greeted the victory. Since morning they had gathered at the pair’s post. Nurdin Abdullah, who cast his vote in Bantaeng regency, also came to the post on Wednesday afternoon to greet them.

After survey institutions released their quick count results, the pair delivered their speech in front of their supporters.

Nurdin said the victory was not his or his supporters’, but it was the victory of all the people of South Sulawesi. He also thanked his team for their hard work.

“Let’s unite together. We don’t need the governor election attributes anymore. Let’s be friends again and maintain our unity for a better South Sulawesi in the future,” said the former regent of Bantaeng.

Nurdin also said there was no loser, only delayed winners. He called on the three other candidate pairs to unite and together develop the province.

Four pairs of candidates joined the election in South Sulawesi. The other three pairs were Nurdin Halid-Aziz Qahhar Mudzakkar, Ichsan Yasin Limpo-Andi Mudzakkar and Agus Arifin Nu'mang-Tanri Bali Lamo.

Nurdin also called on his supporters not to celebrate the victory, much less to have a convoy for that. He instead asked them to go home and to express gratitude to God while helping to monitor the vote-counting process conducted by the local election body. (swa/ebf)
