edicabs, bicycles and motorcycles have been prepared by officials of community unit (RW) 02 in Cibadak subdistrict, Astana Anyar district, Bandung, West Java, to pick up voters at polling stations.

“Voters’ participation here has often been low; so we are trying to help facilitate them to help increase our voter turnout,” RW 02 head Cepi Setiawan said in Bandung on Wednesday.

He said around 1,200 out of 1,700 RW residents were registered as voters in his area.

For pick-up purposes, Cepi said, he had prepared one pedicab, five bicycles and one motorcycle to pick up elderly voters or those who forgot to bring their necessary documents.

“We reimburse the fuel and provide food,” said Cepi, adding that all funds  needed for the program came from the people.

Cepi said RW 02 also prepared a mobile kitchen in the form of a pedicab, which offered coffee and water to election organizers and security teams working at polling stations.

Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil issued earlier a circular on a polling station competition held by the city administration, with categories such as most unique polling station, largest voter turnout and best accessibility for disabled voters. Winners will be eligible for prizes ranging from Rp 2.5 million (US$175.88) to Rp 10 million in cash.

“We want to have high voter participation,” said Ridwan, adding that a solid turnout was an indication of a successful election. (swa/ebf)
