en Indonesian teachers have received astronaut training at the United States Space and Rocket Center space camp in Alabama, the United States.
The 10 science and mathematics teachers from West Java, Central Java, Gorontalo and Maluku received training under the annual Honeywell Educators at Space Academy scholarship program.
“We invited the teachers to inspire them to innovate new ways to teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” Roy Kosasih, president director of Honeywell Indonesia said at a press conference at the JW Marriott Hotel on Friday.
“Hopefully their pupils will be inspired to work in scientific fields in the future,” he added.
Roy said the teachers underwent a five-day training program from June 21 to 25. The teachers attended 45 hours of lectures and laboratory training on space exploration. The teachers also experienced an astronaut simulation at the facility.
Roy said since the program began in 2013, it has successfully sent 40 Indonesian teachers to the space camp. (ahw)
