oordinating Economy Minister Darmin Nasution has said that obtaining licenses though the recently launched Online Single Submission (OSS) system was not as simple as the government expected, as prevailing laws did not accommodate the government program.
“We have to do the best we can to reform the [relevant] regulations, but the system is not as simple as we had hoped for because of the prevailing laws. We are trying to address [the issue],” Darmin said during the OSS's launch on Monday in Jakarta.
He did not provide further details on the laws in question, but he did explain that the OSS system excluded licenses in the energy and financial sectors.
Darmin said that the new system had three main pillars.
First was to provide a secure and controlled system to facilitate business licensing as a legal certainty for investors.
Second was to develop state-of-the-art information technology (IT) to assure easy access to all investors and third, to simplify the licensing process.
“If the system is not supported by a strong institution with high integrity, it will not work well,” Darmin said as quoted by kontan.co.id, adding that a strong institution would be supported by task forces.
Darmin’s office is temporarily in charge of the OSS licensing system, because the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) was not yet ready to manage the job. (bbn)
