epok Police deputy chief Sr. Adj. Comr. Arif Budiman has pledged that the police will follow up on information about sexual harassment committed against a female student when she was selling food in an alleyway in Depok, West Java.
“I’ve heard the story of a female student who was sexually assaulted while she was selling food. The victim has not filed a report yet, but we will still follow it up,” Arif said on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.
He said sexual assault victims should file reports to the police so they could be protected.
The story of a female student in Depok who was sexually harassed on Gg. Jengkol in Cimanggis on Sunday at 7 a.m. went viral on social media.
The victim, 21, said she was assaulted while she was selling donuts and other snacks in the alley.
“The perpetrator came from the opposite alleyway. Because the alley was not large and I was carrying two boxes full of food, I pulled over to let him pass,” she said on Tuesday.
She said the perpetrator glared at her and then approached before groping her and running away.
The perpetrator returned and pretended to buy snacks from her, but groped her again and flashed his genitals.
She said she scolded the perpetrator. She tried to run away from him after the perpetrator hit her on the head and threatened to kill her.
The victim said three of her friends had been sexually harassed on Gg. Jengkol.
She said she wanted to file a report to the authorities but could not because she did not yet have enough evidence. (ami)
