he Peruvian Embassy in Jakarta will host for the first time in Indonesia a performance of traditional dances and music titled “Peru Cultura” (Peru Culture) next week, according to an embassy statement.
Supported by Kyodai Remittance, a Japanese company service provider set to open its doors in the capital, the showcase for Peruvian culture is to be held on the evening of July 26 at the Umar Ismail Hall in South Jakarta.
The event will feature guest artists from Peru, Japan and Indonesia, as well as Peruvian musicians and dancers who will be flown in directly from the Latin American nation. This includes Liliana Castaneda, a decorated performer of Peru’s national dance, the Marinera.
Indonesia will be represented by seasoned dancers from the Ananda Sukarlan Center, who will showcase unique performances from the coastal and highland plateau regions in Peru, as well as from the Amazon.
Another feature of the evening will be dance numbers by members of the Women International Club of Jakarta and special Indonesian friends of the Peruvian Embassy who will perform the Afro-Peruvian dance Festejo and the Peruvian waltz, Vals Peruana.
The cultural festival is just one example of the embassy’s range of activities aimed at promoting the vast heritage and traditions of Peru.
“Culture plays a key role in promoting peace and friendship, and cooperation between the two countries,” the embassy said in a statement.
