tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has said a number of both international and domestic airlines have expressed their intention to open extra flights to Jakarta and Palembang ahead of the Asian Games 2018 from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
“There has been an official proposal from Air China to open two extra flights to Soerkarno-Hatta International Airport,” said AP II technical and operation director Djoko Murjatmojo at the airport’s Terminal 3 in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.
The two international airlines from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates had also expressed their intention to open extra flights, Djoko said, adding that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport would be able to fulfill all the extra flight requests.
Meanwhile, the domestic airlines – flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, Citilink and Baik Air – had also added more flights to Sultan Muhammad Baharuddin Airport in Palembang, the city that will cohost the Games together with Jakarta.
Meanwhile, AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said four airports would be involved in dealing with the transportation of athletes and officials during the implementation of the world’s second-largest multisports event.
The four are Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Sultan Muhammad Baharuddin Airport, Halim Perdanakusumah Airport in Jakarta and Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung.
However, he said two airports – Soekarno-Hatta and the Mohammad Baharuddin – would become the main players during the event and therefore, AP II had provided the airports with additional facilities to assure that they could smoothly serve air passengers during the event. (bbn)
