Asian Games torch relay route in Jakarta

After being carried in 53 cities throughout Indonesia in the past month, the 2018 Asian Games torch will be relayed in the capital from Aug. 15 to 18.

fter being carried in 53 cities throughout Indonesia in the past one month, the 2018 Asian Games’ torch will be relayed in the capital from Aug. 15 to 18.

“We will attempt not to close any roads [for the torch relay]; just let the traffic go as usual,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com .

If traffic diversion is needed, Andri added, the agency might consider closing the road for an hour or to allow private vehicles to enter Transjakarta bus lane.

“It’ll only happen if congestion occurs,” he said.

The torch is slated to be taken to Jakarta from Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday. The relay will start from Jl. Raya Bogor to Jl. Raya Pondok Gede in East Jakarta.

At the Garuda crossroad, the torch will enter Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park to join the ceremonial event in the park’s Sasono Langen Budoyo.

After the ceremony, the torch will be relayed to Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta through Jl. Raya Mabes Hankam, Jl. Lingkar Luar Selatan, Jl. TB Simatupang and Jl. Raya Pasar Minggu. The relay will go to Jl. Pertanian III toward Jl. Ragunan Raya through Jl. Warung Jati Barat and Jl. RM Harsono.

From Ragunan Zoo, the relay will head to City Hall in Central Jakarta through Jl. Taman Margasatwa, Jl. Cilandak KKO, Jl. Ampera Raya, Jl. Pejaten Barat and Jl. Warung Jati Barat. The relay will go to Jl. Mampang Prapatan, Jl. HR Rasuna Said and Jl. HOS Tjokroaminoto to finally reach City Hall via the Tugu Tani monument route.

On the next day, the torch will continue its journey to Kemayoran in Central Jakarta through Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur, Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta Cathedral, Pasar Baru, Jl. Angkasa, Jl. Benyamin Sueb and stop for a while at the Kemayoran Grand Mosque.

The relay will continue to the National Monument (Monas) area through Kebon Kosong, Jl. Raya Abdurahman Saleh, Kwitang, Tugu Tani, Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan and Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.

After that, the torch will be taken to the Tanah Sereal subdistrict office through Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jl. Budi Kemuliaan, Jl. Tali, Jl. Letjen S Parman, Jl. Kyai Tapa, Roxy and Jl. Moh. Mansyur. The relay will continue to Kalijodo Park in North Jakarta through Glodok, Kota and Tambora.

The torch will then head to the North Jakarta municipality office through Jl. Terusan Bandengan, Gedong Panjang, Kampung Bandan, Jembatan Goyang, BMW Park, the Tanjung Priok bus terminal, Plumpang and Sungai Bambu.

From the North Jakarta municipality office, the relay will then proceed to Sunter sports hall (GOR) through the roads passing the North Jakarta Police headquarters, the Plumpang bus shelter, the Artha Gading shopping center, Mall of Indonesia and Sunter lake.

On Aug. 17, the torch will be relayed on Jl. Danau Sunter Selatan and around the athletes village in Kemayoran. The journey will continue to Jl. Benyamin Sueb and Jl. RE Martadinata to Ancol. The torch will be taken aboard a boat to Untung Jawa island in Thousands Islands regency.

After that, the torch will be back to Monas through the roads near the Jakarta Fair area, Jl. Benyamin Sueb, Tanah Tinggi, Senen, Kwitang, Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan and Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.

On its final day on Aug. 18, the torch will end its journey in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports stadium complex. The route will be Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jl. MH Thamrin and Jl. Sudirman. The relay will enter the GBK area through Semanggi Interchange, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. Palmerah Timur, Jl. Gelora and Jl. Gerbang Pemuda. (vla)
