ar sales grew 6.35 percent in the first half of the year  to 661, 215 vehicles from sales in the corresponding period, last year, which stood at 619,212 vehicles, according to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo).

The association recorded that sales in July jumped to 107,431 vehicles, 20.54 percent higher than the figure in the same month, last year.

PT Toyota-Astra Motor executive general manager Fransiscus Soerjopranoto said his company managed to increase sales, particularly sales of the Rush sport utility vehicle

He added that sales of the Rush had increased to 7,000 vehicles in July from 5,000 in the previous month.

“We used momentum from the Asian Games to promote our products,” Fransiscus said as quoted by kontan.co.id, adding that other models that had seen an increase in sales were the Voxy and Alphard.

He said that the odd-even traffic policy in Jakarta was among the factors that supported the sales increase, with many high-income customers buying new cars rather than shifting to public transportation for their daily mobility.

He estimated that car sales would increase to between 1.08 and 1.16 million vehicles this year from 1.07 million, last year.

Meanwhile, PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) marketing and after sales service director Jonfis Fandy also expressed his optimism that sales in the second half would continue to grow, supported by sales of both commercial and passengers vehicles.

“Our sales were mainly supported by the Brio,” he said, referring to the small vehicle model marketed by Honda in Indonesia (bbn)
