he Jakarta Police have rejected the request of detained businessman Richard Muljadi to marry at the Jakarta Cathedral this month. Richard, who was arrested on suspicion of using drugs, will only be allowed to hold a ceremony behind bars.
Drug investigation director Sr. Comr. Suwondo Nainggolan said the businessman and heir to oil, gas and mining company PT Mulia Graha Abadi had submitted the request through his lawyer, Hotma Sitompul.
“We’ve discussed the request with Irwasda [the regional monitoring inspectorate], the legal bureau, Propam [Internal Affairs Division] and the Criminal Investigation Department [Bareskrim].
“We have decided that we won’t release him so that he can marry outside the detention center,” Suwondo added as quoted by kompas.com.
Richard is detained at the Jakarta Police’s detention center in South Jakarta.
“They can still get married but at the detention center like other detainees [who want to get married],” Suwondo said.
