he Jakarta administration is set to develop temporary disposal facilities for hazardous and toxic waste (B3) in Jakarta, including Semper in North Jakarta.
The budgeting team of the Jakarta Council has approved the allocation of around Rp 1.4 billion (US$93,926) for the development of the facilities next year.
The size of one site is only around 80 to 100 square meters.
The head of the Jakarta Environment Agency, Isnawa Adji, said the administration wanted to manage the waste proficiently.
“It is true that we are late to develop such facilities, but late is better than never.
“We have received a lot of suggestions to build the facilities,” Isnawa said on Monday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
He added the waste gathered at the disposal sites would be processed by companies, which have B3 experience.
Isnawa said the agency would provide special vehicles to drive around neighborhoods to collect the waste.
