he Jagonya Ayam KFC Indonesia motor racing team has collected a total of Rp 4.1 billion (US$275,842) in donations for earthquake victims in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, through a charity event. The donation will be distributed by educational foundation Seribu Guru.
The charity event was held on Monday evening in Jakarta by auctioning a racing kit belonging to the team’s drivers, Sean Gelael of Indonesia and Stoffel Vandoorne of Belgium.
Each donated seven items for the auction, which was attended by the Indonesian racing community, national figures, local businesspeople and celebrities.
A German-made Stilo helmet Sean used in 2017 while testing a Formula One Toro Rosso car in Singapore, Malaysia and the United States, garnered the highest bid of Rp 1 billion. The bidding opened at Rp 400 million.
Meanwhile, Sean placed the very first helmet he wore for Formula 2 racing on the auction list.
“The money we raised this evening may not be much, but we really want to lift the spirits of the people of Lombok,” Sean said.
In a video message, Vandoorne, expressed his support of the charity event as he believed many would do the same to help Lombok.
