The United States Embassy in Indonesia, in cooperation with the Indonesian Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry, recently held two graduate education exhibitions — one in Malang, East Java, and the other in Jakarta featuring 25 American universities offering postgraduate degree programs in specific subjects.
The events were held on Sept. 13 in Malang and Sept. 16 in Jakarta at the local offices of EducationUSA, an institution providing consultancy on postgraduate degree programs in the US.
US Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph R. Donovan Jr. and the Indonesian Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry’s higher education directorate general expert staff member, Paulina Pannen, officially launched the events. According to a US Embassy press release, more than 1,370 Indonesians attended the two exhibitions.
According to Donovan, the exhibitions sought to increase the number of Indonesian students pursuing postgraduate degrees in the US, while strengthening people-to-people interaction.
“There is no better way to understand one another, and our cultures, and to prepare our children for the 21st century workplace, than by sharing the experience of learning together in an American classroom,” Donovan said.
Donovan added that higher education also played an important role in the strengthening of the US-Indonesia strategic partnership.
