A 20-year-old man, Supriyanto, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on Tuesday for killing a Navy veteran.
Navy veteran Hunaedi, 83, died of stab wounds at his house in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta.
Hunaedi’s daughter, Tisa, said she was disappointed with the South Jakarta District Court’s verdict, which she considered too lenient.
“I can’t accept the last point that he was only sentenced to 12 years,” she said as quoted by kompas.com.
The verdict was three years lighter than that demanded by public prosecutors.
Supriyanto knocked on Hunaedi’s door on April 4 asking for directions, while Hunaedi was distracted he stole Rp 3.2 million that was on a table.
He visited Hunaedi again the next day and when asked him why he was there Supriyanto suddenly pushed the victim to the ground, took another Rp 200,000 from the table and stabbed the veteran to death. (srz)
