utspoken antigovernment activist Ratna Sarumpaet reportedly suffered injuries to her face after being assaulted in Bandung, West Java.

Pictures purportedly featuring swollen eyes and bruising to her face spread on social media on Tuesday.

“Yes, we received information that she was attacked in a car when she arrived at the airport in Bandung, West Java. That occurred on Sept. 21,” said Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, a spokesman of the campaign team endorsing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno.

The actress-turned-activist, who has frequently made headlines for her fierce criticism of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, is part of the Prabowo-Sandiaga campaign team.

Dahnil said Ratna did not tell anyone when the incident took place because she was scared and traumatized. She has yet to report it to the police.

The Prabowo campaign team has yet to receive any details about the incident. Prabowo himself is scheduled to visit Ratna at her house in South Jakarta later on Tuesday.

Politician Ferdinand Hutahaean of the Democratic Party, one of the political parties in the Prabowo coalition, argued that the attack was political as it took place during the presidential campaign period.

“If it is related to her political activities, then this country is getting far away from democracy. We call on the police to take action and find the attackers,” Ferdinand said.

In December last year, Ratna was questioned by the Jakarta Police in relation to a treason case implicating political activist Sri Bintang Pamungkas, who was named a suspect in an alleged plot to overthrow Jokowi.
