Greater Jakarta: Travel ban on ex Depok mayor extended

T

he immigration authorities have extended their ban on former Depok mayor Nur Mahmudi Ismail traveling abroad, to assist the police’s ongoing investigation into a graft case in which he is implicated.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the police had submitted on Oct. 18 a letter to the Immigration Directorate General to extend the ban, which would have expired on Monday.

“He will be banned from traveling abroad for the next six months,” Argo said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Argo added the police were still revising the case dossier and they would hand over the case to prosecutors as soon as possible.

Previously, the police named Nur Mahmudi and city secretary Harry Prihanto suspects in a Rp 10 billion (US$658,545) graft case related to a road-widening project on Jl. Nangka, Depok.

The 2015 plan was to widen the entire road by 6 meters on each side, which meant demolishing several roadside homes.

Nur reportedly requested the contractors to use their own funds rather than from the Depok regional budget for the project.

However, it was later found that the project was still allocated in the 2015 regional budget despite it supposedly being covered by the contractors.
