Putting it briefly: ‘Tabloid Bola’ to stop printing

Iconic sports publication Tabloid Bola is coming to the end of its journey as it will stop printing after circulating for the past 34 years.

“As how it is written in its history, the first edition of BOLA in 1984 was published on Friday, and so it will also have its last edition on Friday [Oct. 26] too. It will come in 56 pages and full color,” Tabloid Bola tweeted on Oct. 17.

Its magazine version Bolavaganza, first printed in 2001, will also stop printing after publishing its last edition this month.

Tabloid Bola was the brainchild of the sports desk of Kompas daily newspaper. It was first published on March 3, 1984 as a Kompas supplement, which focused on sports news. Kompas is an influential newspaper in the country.

Starting on March 9, 1984, also on Friday, Bola was expanded into a 16-page tabloid and still distributed as a supplement of Kompas.

On April 2, 1988, Bola began its journey as a weekly tabloid with 24 pages. In 1997, Bola began to be published twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday.
