A house collapsed on Tuesday in Baktijaya village, Depok, West Java, in a landslide triggered by heavy rain the previous day.
No fatalities were reported in the incident.
“Alhamdullilah [thank God] there were no fatalities because we were outside on the porch,” Hanah, the owner of the house, told kompas.com on Wednesday.
“I was with five of my family members and [we heard a] loud noise like something was falling,” she added.
She said she then saw two rooms at the back of her house collapsing in the landslide, which she believed was the result of trees that had been cut down along the cliff.
She recalled having many trees behind her house, but they were removed to make way for a housing complex.
“The trees were cut down because [the developer] wanted to build concrete sheeting [which] hasn’t been done yet,” Hanah said.
Landslides have recently been reported in Bogor in West Java, Depok and Tangerang in Banten.
A crack in the ground measuring 150 meters long and 1 m wide appeared in Cimangurang village, Babakan Madang district, Bogor regency on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in Depok, residents of Kampung Pedurenan said a 20 m crack appeared in the ground after heavy rain fell on Saturday afternoon. (srz)
