Man dies during Electric Jakarta Marathon 

He was a participant in the 5 kilometer race and collapsed at the 3-km mark.

A

man, identified by the police as AH, 55, died after collapsing while taking part in the Electric Jakarta Marathon on Sunday morning.

He collapsed at the 3-kilometer mark of the 5 km race, his wife, Cut, said at the Mintohardjo Navy Hospital in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, where his body was taken.  

 “We will take his body to our home in Grogol [West Jakarta],” Cut added on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

AH had taken part in the marathon with colleagues from PT Samuel Aset Manajemen.

Some marathon runners and members of the running community assisted AH’s family at the hospital. 

The marathon, which was sponsored by state-owned utility company PLN, started and finished at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex on Jl. Gerbang Pemuda, Senayan. 

It consisted of five categories, namely the marathon, half marathon (21 km), 10K (10 km), 5K (5 km) and Maratoonz (for children). 

About 16,500 runners took part in the event, of which 1,585 were foreigners. (cal/evi)
