The billboard had been changed on Wednesday to a picture of the businessman and politician Diaz Hendropriyono.
Adya Laksmana Sudrajat proposed to his girlfriend Nadia Octavia Hollywood style, popping the question on a 16-meter tall billboard on one of Jakarta’s busiest streets.
The billboard proposal, up from Monday to Tuesday on Jl. Gatot Subroto in South Jakarta at the JTKI building complex, read: "Happy birthday my love. Will you marry me? Nadia Octavia.”
Adya got on his knees in front of the billboard on Tuesday, on Nadia's birthday. Nadia said she gladly accepted Adya’s proposal.
“Of course, I’m happy. I’m being proposed to. I wasn’t even expecting it, so I teared up a bit [when I saw the billboard],” Nadia told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
She said she thought her boyfriend was only picking her up for a birthday lunch, but it turned out Adya brought her to Jl. Gatot Subroto and proposed to her there, under the billboard.
On Wednesday, Nadia, a doctor, posted the picture of her with her engagement ring and another with Adya on his knees as she beamed with happiness on her Instagram account.
Adya said he was simply trying to show he was willing to take their one-year relationship to the next level.
“It’s simple really. I just want to show Nadia that I want to bring this to another level,” Adya told the Post.
The photo of the billboard went viral, with netizens swooning over Adya’s grand gesture of love.
Twitter user @womanfeeds posted a picture of the billboard and tweeted “I just saw this from the office. Please tell Nadia Octavia to say yes.” The post has been retweeted over 6,000 times as of Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Post found the billboard had been changed to a picture of Adya with Diaz Hendropriyono, a presidential special staffer, the son of top intelligence officer A.M. Hendropriyono and chairman of the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI). The statement accompanying the picture thanked President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo for Indonesia's success as the host of the 2018 Asian Games.
Underneath the picture was the name of Adya's company, event organizer PT Laksmindo Bahtera, and the business number.
According to the company's website, Adya is the business development director and legal director of the event organizer that owns the billboard on which he made the proposal. (evi)
