nvestigators in Tangerang Police’s criminal investigation unit arrested a 17-year-old boy identified only as FF on Friday for allegedly taking part in the murder of 68-year-old Jap Son Tauw, a driver for a ride-hailing application company.
FF was arrested in Sunter, North Jakarta on Friday, Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Sabilul Alif said.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he committed the murder,” Sabilul said on Friday as reported by tribunnews.com.
Sabilul explained that the police had tracked down FF’s whereabouts from the route of the online order sent to Jap on Monday. Investigators then combed the location until they found the suspect.
Based on preliminary investigation, FF allegedly committed the murder with two other people identified only as REH and RLP, who remain at large as they escaped during the raid, Sabilul added.
Tangerang Police criminal investigation unit head Adj. Comr. Gogo Galesung said the police had seized several items of evidence, consisting of clothing worn by the suspect, one Grab Card and clothes belonging to the victim, a knife, a large rock and a sack.
Jap worked as a driver for the Malaysian-based ride-hailing service Grab Indonesia. His son reported that he had lost contact with Jap since Monday. At the time, the victim had reportedly picked up a passenger, identified as Y, in Duta Harapan Indah, North Jakarta, looking to go to Kapuk Pasar Alam, West Jakarta.
The police have yet to identify a connection with Y or a motive for the murder as the investigation process is still ongoing. (sau)
