T

he owners of 140 luxury cars in West Jakarta, each worth above Rp 1 billion (US$ 68,824), have not paid their vehicle taxes but will be able to avail of the tax amnesty implemented from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15.

The head of West Jakarta vehicle taxes (PKB) and vehicle ownership transfer fees (BBNKB) management unit, Elling Hartono, said most of the taxes were only overdue by a matter of days, but there were also taxes due since 2017.

Among the luxury cars are a Roll Royce Phantom Coupe worth Rp 8.8 billion, a Ferrari F 12 worth Rp 7.8 billion and a Bentley worth Rp 3.6 billion.

“I will ‘hunt’ them down even though most of them are only late in paying by several days. We want to remind them to pay,” Elling said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that West Jakarta Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) employees visited the luxury car owners’ home twice every month to ask them to pay the tax.

The Jakarta administration has implemented an amnesty for unpaid PKB, BBNKB and urban and rural land and building taxes (PBB-P2) for a month starting on Nov. 15 in a bid to boost tax revenue.

The amnesty applies to taxes that were due within the period from 2013 to 2017.

The program has been put into effect by Decree No. 2315/2018 issued by the head of the Jakarta Tax and Levy Agency (BPRD). (cal)
