Talk of the week: Goethe-Institut sends three Indonesians to Germany

span>The Goethe-Institut has sent three Indonesians on a week-long immersion program to Germany to study the language. The exchange program is part of the center’s initiative to send German language teachers across Southeast Asia to deepen their language skills in response to the increasing demand for high-quality German language teachers in high schools across the region.

Recently, the center observed an increase in Southeast Asians interested in studying German because they want to pursue their higher education or work in Germany. In a press release, the Goethe-Institut said this increasing demand was not balanced out by the availability of high-quality teachers who know how to use the language on a practical level.

The three Indonesians, who will take part in the language immersion program, are the Education and Culture Ministry’s language education institutions teacher and staff member empowerment division chairman Luziah F. Saidi; language education curriculum research and development division chairman Awaluddin Tajlla and books research and development chairman Supriyatno.

During the immersion program in Germany, the three participants will pay a visit to various educational institutions and universities, such as the School and Education Ministry in North Rhine-Westphalia and Duisburg-Essen University as well as a vocational school.

Then they will also head to the State Europe School in Berlin, where they will study multilingualism and bilingualism, before heading to Humboldt University in Berlin and the city’s institute for school and media affairs.
