T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has apprehended several officials and businesspeople during an operation pertaining to alleged corruption in the regency of Pakpak Bharat in North Sumatra.

KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said the graft busters had arrested four people in Medan and two in Jakarta.

"[Among them were a] regional leader, a local agency head, state officials and businesspeople," Agus said in a statement on Sunday.

"We have identified several suspected illicit transactions related to a public works agency project in Pakpak Bharat," he went on to say.

The KPK was interrogating the apprehended individuals at its headquarters in Jakarta on Sunday and was expected to announce their status in the case later in the afternoon. (evi)
