he 18th World Pencak Silat Championship (WPSC2018) is set to take place from Thursday until Sunday and spectators can expect a thrilling four-day competition as Singapore hosts the championship for the third time. The biennial tournament was held here previously in 1988 and 2004.
Top athletes from more than 40 countries, including Team Singapore athletes, will compete for top honors and spectators can expect to watch thrilling action from more than 300 athletes from the region and beyond, with some of the largest contingents coming from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
“Overall, we are excited to make this happen and we want to serve our delegates from all around the world, providing the opportunity to not only compete but also experience a fair share of pencak silat and showcase the best they can while enjoying their time in Singapore,” chief organizer Sheik Alau’ddin Yaacob said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
The Championship will be broadcast live on Toggle and YouTube, coordinated by host broadcaster 1Play Sports. Entry to the tournament is also free and apart from catching the action at the OCBC Arena, spectators can also look forward to trying out various martial arts such as judo, taekwondo, wushu, aikido and karate.
