Indosat Ooredoo records 12% revenue growth, 22.7% EBITDA growth yoy

eading digital telecommunications company Indosat Ooredoo has announced a strong set of financial results for the first nine months of 2021, a period ending on Sept. 30.

Throughout the period, Indosat Ooredoo’s total revenue increased 12 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 23 trillion, while cellular revenue rose 10.3 percent yoy to Rp 18.8 trillion.

The company’s EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) increased 22.7 percent yoy to reach Rp 10.4 trillion in the nine months, attributed to a combination of top-line growth and a continued focus on operational cost efficiencies. These helped deliver an EBITDA margin growth of 4.0 ppt yoy, to 45.1 percent.

In total, Indosat Ooredoo recorded a net profit of Rp 5.8 trillion.

At the same time, Indosat Ooredoo also recorded 62.3 million customers during the nine-month period, an increase of 3.2 percent yoy. 4G data users grew to 43 million, an increase of 27 percent yoy. Average Revenue per User (ARPU) increased 7.9 percent yoy to Rp 34,200, driven mainly by robust growth in data traffic which rose 39.2 percent yoy.

Ahmad Al-Neama, president director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo, said the company’s execution of its transformation strategy continued to lead Indosat Ooredoo in sustaining its growth momentum and delivering an excellent financial performance.

“In the first nine months of the year, our revenue growth trajectory continued to outperform the industry. Yet again, we delivered a strong EBITDA performance, which grew almost twice as fast as revenue. We continue to provide an outstanding network performance and digital services to our loyal customers. The growing customer trust has led to strong customer base growth over the last nine months. We thank our customers and all stakeholders for the continued support of Indosat Ooredoo.” he said in a statement.

During Q3 2021, Indosat Ooredoo announced the launch of commercial 5G services in Jakarta and Surabaya following the first launch of 5G in Solo earlier in June. Aligned with Indosat Ooredoo’s commitment to be at the forefront of Indonesia’s 5G revolution, 5G service is the next step in bringing world-class digital experiences to people in Indonesia.

During the quarter, Indosat Ooredoo also continued its 4G network coverage expansion across the country, bringing 4G/LTE services to 124 remote villages in Aceh, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The network deployment is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s program to fulfill 4G coverage throughout Indonesia and deploying 4G/LTE service across 645 remote villages by 2022.

In the first nine months of 2021, Indosat Ooredoo’s total BTS reached nearly 126,000, with more than 70,000 4G BTS.

Indosat Ooredoo’s successful transformation strategy and outstanding performance was recognized by several major international business awards during the quarter. Notably, Indosat Ooredoo was named the global “Telecommunications Company of the Year” at this year’s Stevie International Business Awards. At the same event, Ahmad Al-Neama was also awarded the Gold Stevie for the “Executive of the Year – Telecommunications” category in recognition of his strong commitment to good governance, innovation and employee engagement, welfare and development.

“During the third quarter, we continued to expand and strengthen our network to connect more customers across Indonesia, even in remote areas. We launched 5G services in more cities helping to transform Indonesia into a 5G-capable nation. And we continued to bring the very best digital technologies and products to our customers in strategic partnership with some of the world’s leading technology companies. We are fully committed to supporting the government’s agenda to turn Indonesia into a digital powerhouse in the region,” Ahmad concluded.
