Bandung city police have announced tight security measures for Sunday's rock concert at Siliwangi Stadium.

Police and military personnel, including Bandung public order officers, will be on duty at the concert, which features American heavy metal band Skid Row, Bandung city police chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Suparsono said.

To avoid a repeat of the recent concert tragedy that claimed 11 lives, mostly teenagers, Bambang held a special meeting for security institutions, concert organizers and the municipality to anticipate any possible problems.

"We've learned from past experience and hope no similar incidents will occur, especially given this is a bigger concert featuring a famous band," Bambang said Thursday.

At least 400 police officers will be present, with hundreds of reinforcements from the military and the public order office. Other security measures will include fire engines and a water cannon.

Bambang said the National Police Headquarters had issued a permit for the concert promoter, Log Zhelebour Production, and expected the open-air concert to take place peacefully.

Bandung Tourism Agency head Askary Wirantaatmadja said his office had approved the concert after the promoter promised to cover any losses incurred by the concert and not to sell tickets for more people than the stadium could hold.

"They (organizers) are quite experienced, so we don't have to worry," Askary said.
