BANDUNG: Bandung is set to hold its first-ever direct mayor election Aug. 10, 2008
Chairman of the Bandung general election commission (KPUD) Benny Mustafa said his team was preparing to recruit poll workers and upgrading the list of eligible voters in the city.
He said the KPUD would be open to the registration of candidates contending the election from May 2 through May 16.
He called on the municipal administration to disburse the poll budget of Rp 35 billion to allow the KPUD to start making preparations.
Incumbent mayor Dada Rosada said he and the KPUD had agreed to hold the election two months ahead of schedule in anticipation of a second round in the race. --JP
