Within a year local logistics firm RPX Group wants 100 more sales and service centers and new technology throughout the enterprise.

The big picture is to have 20 percent more customers when the fiscal year ends in April 2009.

Vice president for operations and customer services M. Kadrial said Thursday the company would be partnering with small and medium-sized businesses across the country to open the new outlets.

The company plans to reinforce each of the SME's to the tune of Rp 1.86 billion (some US$202,174) to ensure all its partners have good business systems and training.

"We currently have 307 outlets and the aim to push it to 450 in the next fiscal year," said Kadrial.

He added that a thorough IT upgrade was also a priority.

By spending on average a half million dollars on IT every year, RPX has in place an SMS-based system for tracking deliveries which dovetails with the global positioning (GPS) systems in its delivery trucks.

The company's business consists of RPX International Express (licensed by FedEx), RPX Airlines (which is served by three Boeing 737-200 cargo planes), RPX Domestic Express, RPX Warehouse Services, RPX Customs Brokerage, RPX Freight Forwarding and RPX Moving & Packing.

Turning to the industry, Kadrial said logistics in Indonesia would likely grow about 10 percent in term of orders this year.

The Indonesian Association of Express Courier Service Companies (Asperindo) has said it has no specific data on how much the industry is worth.
