JAKARTA: The University of Indonesia is going green, with management providing bicycles at its Depok campus as an alternative to the shuttle buses, Detik.com reported Monday.
A special lane has been provided for the cyclists to avoid accidents caused by the increasing number of motorized vehicles taking shortcuts through the campus, Donanta Dhanewara, the university's campus facilities director, said Monday.
Currently the university has 100 bicycles, which are mostly used by campus staff and security personnel.
Under a cooperation deal with a local bicycle producer, university management plans to add 100 bicycles every year.
"We provide the bicycles for free," said Donanta. "Hopefully students can use them to get around the campus." -- JP
