Rights protection is a must, but our government seems not to take it seriously.

If I told you what I thought about human rights in Indonesia, I'd probably get deported by some generals.

Human rights is not respected in our country. Many are screaming out for their rights to life, education, security or shelter. What is the government doing?

The image of human rights protection in Indonesia will never improve unless we are able to resolve human rights tragedies of the past.

What protection? I don't see it...

Indonesia gets minus points for human rights protection. If the government really cared about it, there would be no abuse of children, no killings of rights campaigners, fewer beggars and jobless people and less corruption and poverty.

Hell to human rights* It's tearing our country apart*

Our beloved country is not serious about protecting human rights because the law is not upheld seriously.

Indonesia does not protect human rights. Law enforcers do not have a conscience. They are more afraid of losing their jobs than of facing Judgment Day. But the police and military have been trying to change.

Indonesia fails to protect rights of its citizens. According to the Human Development Report 2007, Indonesia ranks 107th of 177 countries. This is really disgraceful. I hope the government gives serious attention to the rights of citizens.
BONAR SILALAHI

Government officials say human rights protection has been getting better, but ordinary people who don't have bargaining power do not feel their rights have been protected. If we want to make identity cards or other documents, for example, we must pay more than what is stated in official tariffs.
ENDANG PURNAMA

Human rights are universal values so it is strange if our country does not care about them. Unfortunately, many think sacrificing one person is tolerable for the benefit of many. This is a problem in protecting human rights.

I think human rights protection in Indonesia is very bad. We see on TV and read in newspapers there are so many victims of human rights violations in many cities. Local governments evict street vendors from their workplaces violently. Government officials even destroy their stalls they use for vending. Meanwhile, the government always protects rich and powerful people.
WAHYU SUNYOTO JATI

Indonesia doesn't have a good human rights record. Many cases of human rights abuses including those in Talang Sari, Kedung Ombo, Tanjung Priok and Semanggi which have not been resolved. Our government is not concerned about those cases.
JULIA SITI RACHMANI

We must lobby the importance of human rights protection so more and more people are brave enough to come forward and report human rights violations.
ROMMEL

There is no human rights protection in Indonesia because many important cases are still kept secret. Similarly, this occurs in a number of corruption cases.
Therefore, as a nation, Indonesia cannot progress significantly.
