Jakarta food guide launched at Aksara

JAKARTA: Laksmi Pamuntjak launched the third edition of her series on Jakarta food Wednesday evening at Aksara Bookstore, in Kemang, South Jakarta.

Titled Jakarta Good Food Guide 2008/2009, the book features 440 restaurants, casual eateries and street vendors in Jakarta. Laksmi Pamuntjak herself, sometimes with friends, did all the eating.

The first edition of the series was published in 2001, titled Jakarta Good Food Guide 2001. The second, Jakarta Good Food Guide 2002-2003, was published in 2002.

After six years of hiatus, Laksmi, who has spent much of her time in Singapore recently, released the third edition.

"(The series) is Indonesia's first good food guide, aimed at mapping Jakarta's culinary scene independent of the hospitality or restaurant industry ... It accepts advertising but NOT from restaurants," the press release made available Wednesday said. -JP
