BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: Preparations for the the National Games (PON) may be behind scehdule, but the organizers are keeping their promise to go "all out" with services to the participants from 33 provinces.
"We will provide meals, accommodation and transport between hotels and venues," said spokesperson of the Balikpapan councillor Herlan Agus Salim during a business meeting held to promote the event.
This year's quadrennial multi-event sporting showcase will be hosted in East Kalimantan in July. The organizers are under criticism for their slow progress in their preparations with some venues still under construction because of a lack of funding.
Syaiful Teteng, chairman of the organizing committee, said they were offering sponsorship packages ranging between Rp 100 million (US$10,752) to Rp 9 billion for companies in a bid to draw more funding. Their budget is set at Rp 485 billion (US$52.15 million). --JP
