ADPARA>PALU, Central Sulawesi: The Central Sulawesi chapter of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) predicted rice procurement in the province would increase by 14 percent this year from 17,660 tons last year.
Head of the Central Sulawesi Bulog office, Tatang Sutarna, said Monday the 14 percent increase was an estimate.
In the period between January and March alone, rice procurement reached 200 tons, Tatang said, adding that the biggest procurement would take place from April to May, when rice production centers like Pantai Barat, Lambunu, Parigi, Tolai, Morowali, Luwuk and Buol would have their major harvests.
In order to facilitate the rice procurement, the Bulog office has established a kind of interlinkage with a number of parties and farmers, Tatang said. In such a partnership scheme, Bulog acts as the buyer of the produce, he said.
"There are 60 partners so far," he added. -- JP
