CILACAP, Central Java: The local chapter of the Indonesian Fishermen's Association (HNSI) said Tuesday three fishermen from Cilacap were feared missing.
They were identified as Rahmat, 45, Yusuf, 42, and Aris, 35, all from Cilacap near the Teluk Penyu tourist resort.
The men, who had set out to sea together last week using a jukung fiberglass boat, had not returned home as of Tuesday.
Association chairman Atas Munandar told the media a search and rescue (SAR) team had made efforts to locate the fishermen in waters off Yogyakarta but to no avail.
The search team, together with SAR teams from other provinces, scoured the coast off Kebumen, Purworejo and Yogyakarta, but were unsuccessful.
Atas said fuel for the fishing boat could only last for two days. "The boat is able to operate only two miles from the coast. They likely encountered problems in the middle of the sea." -- JP
