The Sultan Hotel tennis court became a special venue for top Indonesian tennis players Sunu Wahyu Trijati and Ayu Fani Damayanti when they triumphed during the finals of the Rp 150 million (US$16,300) Sportama tennis championships on Sunday after their previous victories at the Cigna Open in February, also held at the hotel.
Central Java's Sunu, the tournaments top seed, eased past second seed Sebastian Dacosta of East Kalimantan 6-4 6-4 in the men's singles final, while Jakarta's Ayu, also top seed in women's singles, romped to a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win over Lavinia Tananta from Central Java.
"I am glad to repeat my feat at the Sultan. I just tried to play a more offensive serve and volley game from the beginning of the match," Sunu told reporters during the post-match interview.
Senu said his strategy of returing Sebastian's serves to his backhand side had been key.
With Sunday's victory, Sunu extended his winning streak over Sebastian to four out of four games played, the most recent of which was at the 2006 Aceh Open.
Sunu received a check for Rp 13.4 million, while runner-up Sebastian brought home Rp 7.6 million.
After the final, Sportama champion Ayu promised she would not rest on her laurels.
"This is my second tournament victory this year at the same venue, but I don't want to become complacent. I hope to maintain my top form throughout the National Games," she said, referring to the country's quadrennial sporting event to be held in East Kalimantan in July.
Ayu pocketed Rp 7.3 million, while her defeated opponent received Rp 4.3 million.
Ayu also paired up with Liza Andriyani to secure a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the women's doubles final against pair Septi Mende and Wukirashi Sawondari.
In the men's doubles, Andery Setyawanto and Bonit Wiryawan beat Edi Kusdaryanto and Ferdi Fauzi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
